Truffaut's only English-language film – and first in colour – was an ambitious translation of Ray Bradbury's acclaimed novel to the screen. In an oppressive society of the near future, books and the reading of them are banned. Guy Montag gradually becomes dissafected with his job of burning books and discovers a love of literature; but is outlawed and rejected as a result. Cinematography is courtesy of Nicolas Roeg, and there's a typically impressive Bernard Herrmann score.
