A celebration of what was the largest and most sophisticated studio complex in the world when opened in 1960. Since then these studios have been home to many of the nation's favourite TV productions and personalities. Using clips from the archives, we'll look back at some great moments in television history and our celebrity panel (check bfi.org.uk for details) will discuss working at TVC, its ever-changing role, and the anecdotes associated with it. We will then screen Behind the Scenes: Television Centre (BBC 1971, Dir Tim Byford, 25min), providing a fascinating glimpse into the workings of TVC at its peak in 1971.

We are delighted to announce the panel for this event who will talk about their memories of working at Television Centre over the years and introduce the archive clips:

  • Chair: Nick Ross (Presenter & Journalist);
  • Esther Rantzen (Presenter & Journalist);
  • Jonathan Powell (former Head of Drama and former Controller BBC1);
  • Paul Jackson (Comedy & Light Entertainment Producer/Executive)
  • Roly Keating (Current Head of BBC Archive and former Controller BBC Two)
